大丈夫は、仏の言葉

「大丈夫」とは「間違いないから大丈夫、心配ありませんよ」というように、間違いなく、あぶなげなくて確かなさまを意味していますが、人はしばしば「多分大丈夫じゃないかな？」と、大丈夫に疑問語を付けて根拠のない自信を持ってしまいがちです。自信を持つことは物事を成功させる上で大事なことですし、ある程度大らかに構えるのも必要です。

しかし、根拠のない「大丈夫」は、「大丈夫ではない」と思うよりずっと危なっかしいのです。肯定的な言葉に疑問語をつけてしまう心情は、確信ではなく願望です。「大丈夫ですよ」と言われると、何となく安心しますが「多分大丈夫じゃないかな？」と言われると、かえって不安な気持ちになってしまいます。もともと「丈夫」という言葉は、偉大な人、立派な人のことを言いました。『大無量寿経』には、世自在王佛(せじざいおうぶつ)は阿弥陀さまの師にあたる仏さまとなりますが、この仏さまの別称が「調御(ちょうご)丈夫（私達を仏へと導いてくれること）」だと書かれてあります。「大丈夫」とは仏さまから私たちへの救いの言葉だったのです。「南無阿弥陀仏」とお念仏する時はいつも、「大丈夫」とこたえてくださる仏さまがいます。相手を思いやって使う「大丈夫」という言葉は、私達を想う仏さまそのものなのです。

私達は自分が迷っていることになかなか気づくことができません。そんな私達でも名号となって呼び続ければ、必ず仏の慈悲に気づくはずだということを、阿弥陀さまは確信していたのです。だからこそ「南無阿弥陀仏」のお念仏は、私達に仏さまの存在を知らせると同時に「大丈夫、心配ないよ」とよびかけ、私の不安を消してくださるのです。本当の意味で心から安心できる「大丈夫」と言えるのは、仏さまのお言葉なのではないでしょうか。

“Daijobu*”is a word of Amida Buddha

*Daijobu: All right

"Daijobu: It's going to be all right" means you need not worry because it will be fine.
It means a state that has no problems.
In our daily conversation, we tend to say "It should be ok, right?", showing our baseless confidence with a question mark.
In order to succeed, you need to have confidence and be determined.
The attitude you need to have is to be ready even when the worst happens.
To say "daijobu" when it is just a wishful thinking is far worse than "not daijobu".
When someone tells you "daijobu" you feel safe, but if you are thinking "it'll be daijobu, right?", it makes you feel insecure.
When you put a question mark at the end of an affirmative expression, it just becomes a wishful thinking.
Originally, "Jobu" meant a strongly built male in Ancient China.
"Jobu" meant the person is not just strongly built, but is knowledgeable and has charisma.
A person who was truly All right.
Daijobu means a sure state that has no problems and is one of the names of Amida Buddha.
When we recite nembutsu, Amida Buddha is always there saying "Daijobu".
Daijobu is a word of Amida Buddha.
