改元

初春(しょしゅん)の令月(れいげつ)にして、気淑(きよ)く風和(かぜやわら)ぎ、
梅(うめ)は鏡前(きょうぜん)の粉(こ)を披(ひら)き、蘭(らん)は珮後(はいご)の香(こう)を薫(かおら)す　(万葉集)

本年４月1日、内閣官房長官から「平成」に変わる新しい元号を「令和」と発表され、5月1日から施行されることとなりました。
新元号は、西暦645年の「大化」から数えて248番目。天皇陛下の退位によって元号が変わることは、憲政史上はじめてのことです。
万葉集の歌を出典とした元号制定を受け、このお歌の意味は「初春のこの良い月に、気は良く風はやわらか」と続いていきます。
内閣総理大臣は談話の中で「万葉集は天皇や皇族貴族だけでなく防人や農民まで幅広い階層の人々が詠んだ歌が収められ、我が国の豊かな国民文化と長い伝統を象徴する国書であります。厳しい寒さの後に春の訪れを告げ、見事に咲き誇る梅の花のように、一人ひとりの日本人が明日への希望とともに、それぞれの花を大きく咲かせることができる、そうした日本でありたいとの願いを込め、令和に決定致しました」と言われました。
今から約２５００年前にお釈迦様がお説き下さったお念仏のみ教えは「すべてのいのちを等しく平等に救う」と明らかにして下さいました。愚かな私を照らし、まるで煩悩という泥水の中にありながら綺麗で大きな蓮の花を咲かせるような、それぞれのいのちを輝かせる人生を与えて下さるのです。
新しい年号を迎えて、念仏者から漂う、うるわしくやわらかな薫りが、おのずと人々へ伝わっていくことを願っています。

Japan's new era named "Reiwa," 1st from native source

Time is early spring and it’s an auspicious month.

On the 1st of April this year, Yoshihide Suga, Chief Cabinet Secretary, announced the new era after “Heisei” will be called “Reiwa” (Beautiful Harmony).
The Reiwa era officially begins at the stroke of midnight on May 1, the same moment in which Emperor Akihito officially abdicates and his son Crown Prince Naruhito becomes Japan’s new emperor.
It is the 248th era name since “Taika” of 645 A.D.
The change of era as a result of an abdication of Emperor is the first in the constitutional history.
In the new era name Reiwa, there is a wish for the birth and growth of culture as people's hearts come together beautifully.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said "Manyo-shu”, contains not just poetry written by emperors and nobilities, but by all class of people such as soldiers and farmers.
Like the plum blossoms, announce the arrival of spring as the harsh winter ends by flowering magnificently, we decided on Reiwa reflecting our wish for Japan to be where each person is able to bloom with hopes for tomorrow.

As we transition from Heisei to Reiwa, we hope it will be an even better era.
Reiwa era begins on the first of May. Let us start the new era with renewed enthusiasm.
