真夜中の成人式

師走を向かえ、一年を振り返ってみます時、悲しい事件や事故などの多い年であったと言えるのではないでしょうか。

10月末、韓国にて、若い世代を中心に、150人以上が死亡するという、いたましい事件が起こりました。それにともない、ご遺族様や関係の深い方々の悲しみは計り知れません。これからの未来を担い、世の中を支えていく立場の多くのいのちが失われたことは、この社会にとっての損失と言えるのではないでしょうか。深く哀悼の意を表します。

インターネットのウィキペディアによりますと、「成年または成人年齢は、法的には、単独で法律行為が行えるようになる年齢のこと。一般社会においては、身体的、精神的に十分に成熟している年齢の人間を指すことが多い。」と示されています。世界をみても、家庭内においても、様々な事件や事故、争いを起こし続けている私たちは、精神的に十分に成熟していると言えるのでしょうか。

本年4月、民法の改正により成人年齢が18歳に引き下げられました。福住寺では、年末の除夜会に合わせてお勤めし、記念品を贈る「真夜中の成人式」が行われております。今回のみ、移行措置として18歳から20歳を対象といたします。皆様方のお近くで対象の方がおられましたら、お寺（011-851-8654）までお知らせ下さり、御家族皆様でご参詣下さい。

年末年始に限らず、私の心を育てて下さる仏さまのお言葉を聞かせていただきましょう。

Midnight Coming of Age Ceremony on New Years Eve

Looking back on the year at this time of the year end, there were many sad events and accidents within and outside of the country.
The stampede of the people celebrating the Halloween in the popular area of Itaewon in Seoul, Korea was a devastating incident that killed 154 young people. The loss of so many young lives who were to be the members of the future society was a huge loss. When I think of the suffering of their families and friends, I feel torn apart. I would like to express my deepest condolences. In April this year, the legal age of youth turning adult was lowered to 18.
Legal Adult Age means that the person has physically and mentally matured enough to act as a sole legal entity. Inside and outside of the country, and in our homes, there are all kinds of incidents, accidents, and battles constantly.
If only we could mutually give in a little, we should be able to avoid serious consequences. Even when we reach the age of adulthood, can we say we have sufficiently matured mentally? There are so many ways we should do better.
At Fukujyuji Temple, we recite scriptures to mark the end of the year and to give out a little memento at the Midnight coming of age ceremony. This year only, we invite 18 to 20 year olds people for this ceremony. If you know applicable young people, let us know. We extend our invitations to them and their family.
