北海道胆振東部地震被災の皆様に衷心よりお見舞い申し上げます

災害が教えてくれた｢あたりまえ｣が｢ありがたい｣ということ

平成３０年９月６日（木）に発生した「北海道胆振東部地震」は、私たちに生活に甚大な被害をもたらしました。未だ避難を余儀なくされている方々が多くおられることに、心よりお見舞いを申し上げるとともに、一日も早い復興を念願いたします。
今年は全国各地で「未曾有」と言われる自然災害が頻発しました。本州などでは春先から始まり、「西日本七月豪雨」・「大阪府北部地震」・記録的な猛暑・逆走する大型台風12号・大型台風20号・21号などがありました。特に、私たちの住む北海道では、北日本に梅雨前線が停滞して石狩川が氾濫した大雨や、台風21号の被害が大きかったように思えます。
そんな中、台風に間髪入れぬ間に起こったのが「北海道胆振東部地震」でした。北海道は、本州と比べると台風や猛暑の被害の少ない地域なので誰しもが災害に対して油断していたのではないでしょうか。悪く言えば「他人ごと」のように考えていたかもしれません。
そのためか、当たり前に使っていた電気や水道などの資源がなくなると、不安な毎日を過ごしていたことでしょう。そんな中、地域のつながりや人と人との絆の大切さを、改めて気づかせてくれたのもこの災害だったのではないでしょうか。
この度、私たちが遭遇した災害は「未曾有」という言葉が誇大ではない惨状であり、幾十年に一度の災害でありましょう。しかし、同時に資源も食べ物も人間関係までも使い捨てている今の私たちの暮らしに対する警鐘と受け取ることもできるのです。
資源や食べ物、人との繋がりが「あたりまえ」ではなく、有ることが難しい「ありがたい」ものであったと頂きながら人生を歩みたいものです。

The Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake that occurred on the 6th September 2018 caused much damages to our livesFor those who are still having to live away from home, we express our heartfelt sympathy and our prayers for a quick recovery.This year, there have been several natural disasters around the country that were quite rare.
In Honshu, there were the heavy rain in Western Japan in the spring and there was also an earthquake in Northern Osaka.
In the summer, we had record heat wave as well as repetitive large scale typhoons.
In Hokkaido, the stagnant monsoon front in Northern Japan caused Ishikari River to flood and caused a lot of damages.Once we thought the typhoon has passed, the earthquake occurred in Eastern Hokkaido.Hokkaido, in comparison to Honshu usually are not affected by typhoon and heatwaves.Perhaps we were not well prepared for disasters.
As earthquakes become more active and the environmental issues become more serious, there are increased chance of infrastructure such as power, water and gas supplies stopping their function.The urbanization increases our dependency on such infrastructure and when it stops functioning, our lives are seriously affected.The recent events have reminded us the importance of regional relationships as well as human connections.To call the disasters we experienced extremely rare is not an exaggeration.Disaster strikes when you least expect it.
We can view them as a warning bell from the earth to us who use natural resources, food and even people as disposable objects.
Resources, food and human connections are not to be fore granted. Instead, they are things to be grateful for.
